LISBON - A day after the Columbiana County Board of Elections discussed
finding some very questionable voter registrations among those turned
in recently, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Information and Investigation
has come here to work on the case.
Sheriff Ray Stone said BCII arrived Friday, spent about two hours
talking to Detective Jeff Haugh of the sheriff's office about his
investigation and took the case file with them to continue the
investigation. Stone said it appears the problems with the
registrations are not just here, but also in Trumbull County and
possibly others. That makes the case a multi-jurisdictional one.
Stone said Haugh and the sheriff's office will continue to assist BCII
with the case, but at this point it appears the state organization is
taking the lead.
During Thursday's meeting of the board of elections, Director Adam
Booth reported his staff, using local and state databases, had
identified problems with some of the 500 to 600 registration forms
filed by the group Ohio Organizing Collaborative. Booth said five of
the registration forms were for deceased individuals, and nearly two
dozen others were being flagged for problems with the signatures,
addresses or other information not matching on them.
Board of elections Vice Chairman David Johnson said following
Thursday's meeting he called the offices of both Attorney General Mike
DeWine and Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted about the situation. He
said Friday he was happy the matter is being investigated even further.
Johnson also pointed to a link found between Ohio Organizing
Collaborative and the Hillary Clinton campaign and demanded she be held
"personally responsible" for the group's actions.
On Thursday, Booth reported finding that one of the lawyers used by the
Ohio Organizing Collaborative to challenge the 28-day early
voting period in Ohio was Marc Elias, who is also the general counsel
for the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
