Edison President Named Influential Executive

The Dayton Business Journal (DBJ) has named Edison State Community College President, Dr. Doreen Larson as one of the most influential female executives in the region. The announcement was made on Thursday, September 24 at the Power 50 Reception in Dayton.

Dr. Larson was named to the prestigious list for her outstanding leadership in the region’s higher education sector.

“Being named to the Power 50 is an acknowledgment of the expanding role that Edison State Community College is playing in the Dayton region in both College Credit Plus partnerships and industry apprenticeship programs. However, we are just getting started. Our highly accessible and safe locations in Piqua and Greenville will quickly become hubs for transfer programs and workforce pipelines alike.”

Larson, an Ohio native, became the President of Edison State Community College earlier this year. Previously, she led Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia, where she served as President since 2010. Larson has previously held administrative positions at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio. She began her career in higher education as an Assistant Professor of Education at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

Larson, who has attributed much of her success to the mentors she has had throughout life, was pleased to invite Jill Bobb, Edison Associate Program Administrator of Nursing to attend the reception with her.

“I was only in my current role for two weeks when Dr. Larson offered suggestions on how to grow into this position after having been a full-time faculty member for 7 years,” said Bobb. “She offered to mentor me based on her own experiences and challenges as a woman in leadership.”

“I am honored to be in this position of working with Edison’s first woman president and am anxious to learn how a strong leader can make a positive impact on the educational system,” added Bobb.

According to their website, the DBJ Editorial Board selected women for inclusion in the list, and did so based on their position within their organization, as well as their community impact.
