Edison Students
Receive High Academic Honors
Two Edison State Community College students have been named to the 2016
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Ohio Academic Team. Keith Hoying of Anna and
John R. Winemiller, Jr. of Sidney have been selected as two of this
year’s fifty-five statewide recipients.
To be eligible for the All-Ohio Academic Team, students are first
nominated by their college president and must be eligible for
graduation during the current academic year while holding a minimum
3.25 GPA. Winners are chosen on the foundation of academic performance,
demonstration of leadership, and community service involvement.
“The application process and requirements to be placed on an All-Ohio
Academic Team are rigorous,” said Scott Burnam, Vice President of
Student Affairs for Edison State.
“These students are representative of Edison State’s highest achievers
academically and in service to their families and community. They also
represent some of the breadth of diversity in our student population,
from a still-current high-school student to a parent working a
full-time job.”
Both Hoying and Winemiller were named to the All-Ohio Academic Third
Team and received cash scholarships of $250, medallions, certificates,
and pins, which were made possible through the generosity of Honda of
America Manufacturing, Inc.
Hoying is currently a senior at Anna High School and is taking College
Credit Plus courses with Edison State. Upon graduating from high
school, Hoying intends to transfer his college credits to the
University of Toledo where he will work toward pursuing a career as a
Physician Assistant. Outside of school, Hoying works full-time on his
family farm, runs cross country, performs in drama, and provides direct
care and driving assistance for Visiting Angels.
Winemiller is currently working toward obtaining an Associate of
Applied Science degree in Electronics Engineering from Edison State.
Upon graduating, Winemiller hopes to enter the workforce as an
electrical engineer. Outside of college, Winemiller is a father of two
who works full–time. Additionally, he is active in Phi Theta Kappa and
the National Society for Leadership and Success.
A special ceremony will be held to recognize the All-Ohio Academic
Teams in Columbus in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium. The All-Ohio Academic
Team is co-sponsored by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges
(OACC) and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).
