Council on
Rural Services celebrates “Week of the Young Child”
Piqua – Council on Rural Services …programs for innovative learning, is
committed to improving the lives of children and their families.
Because of this commitment, we will be joining other organizations
across the country in celebrating young children, their teachers and
families for “Week of the Young Child” during the week of April 11 to
15. The theme for the week is “Celebrating our Youngest Learners”.
This week is set aside to recognize that children’s opportunities in
early learning and early literacy are everyone’s responsibilities and
we must commit our communities’ resources to ensuring that every child
has experiences that promote this early learning. We are focusing
on the needs of young children and their families and the early
childhood programs and services that help to meet those needs.
The local Kids Learning Place in Darke County at Greenville, Bradford,
and Union City are celebrating young children and their families with
planned activities in the centers each day. The week will be
planned around Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday,
Ooey Gooey Thursday and Family Friday. Our teams are pulling out
all the stops and helping the children celebrate every day with a new
experience.
Liz Pfenning, early childhood director, said “High quality
prekindergarten programs do improve school readiness with the greatest
gains for the highest-risk children. Children need small classes,
well-trained teachers, a curriculum aligned with high standards and
support services for children and families. All this contributes
to a program’s success.”
She added, “But, we all must continue do more to create opportunities
that support, encourage, and assist in building a better future for all
children.”
CORS encourages everyone to celebrate, honor, and raise awareness of
the importance of early learning and development in Darke County. By
working together; child care centers, Head Start programs, preschools,
and elementary schools can give young children a great start with
better access to high-quality education and learning environments.
