Young Forest
Martial Arts Celebrates Third Year Anniversary
By Jaime Wombolt
On August 13, Young Forest Martial Arts of Greenville celebrated their
third year anniversary. The invitation was extended to both past and
present students, as well as family members who wished to join in the
festivities. The celebration took place at their new location, 106 N.
Broadway, and included a meal followed by games and entertainment for
those involved.
Owner and Head Sifu, Jesse Berry, started the evening off with a word
of thanks to not only the students, but also to the parents and other
family members involved. “A lot of my students are younger, and it
takes a special commitment from not only the students, but also the
parents and guardians that take the time and energy to get these
students back and forth for an obligation, that unlike most sports, is
year round.”
Sifu Berry recognizes that Kung Fu, like other martial arts and sports,
takes hard work and effort from all those involved. His goal is to see
that his students take from this activity; life skills such as focus,
discipline, and will power, while also instilling a role of leadership.
“We encourage our students to use their life skills to not only better
themselves, but lead and influence those around them to better
themselves; first at home and in school, then the workplace, and
ultimately the community.” Sifu Berry points out that Kung Fu is,
“a skill that can be carried with his students for the rest of their
lives.”
Over sixty individuals enjoyed the celebration as they each came
together to not only to engage in fellowship, but also appreciate what
each person, student, guardian, and even Sifu himself takes from these
valued classes.
