Darke County Sheriff
Darke County's first fatal accident of 2016

On January 21, 2016 at approximately 3:06 PM Darke County Deputies along with Ansonia Fire and Rescue and Careflight responded to the 5700 block of Oliver Road on a report of an injury accident.
 
Preliminary investigation revealed a Silver 1998 Dodge Caravan driven by Betsy Hall 16, of Bradford was traveling Eastbound on Oliver Road and struck a green John Deere Gator A.T.V. operated by Ralph Hartle 82, of Greenville as he picked up a trash can along the side of the roadway and while making a left turn into a private driveway . Mr. Hartle was ejected from the John Deere Gator and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital aboard Careflight. Hall was transported to Wayne HealthCare with possible injuries. Hartle's condition is unknown at this time. Two juvenile passengers in Hall's vehicle were uninjured.
 
Darke County accident reconstruction team also responded to the scene.
 
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
 
Update: February 2, 2016
 
On February 2, 2016 the Darke County Sheriff's Office was notified by the Montgomery County Coroners office that Ralph G. Hartle, 82, died on January 21, 2016 at approximately6:23 PM.  Mr. Hartle died as a result of his injuries sustained in the January 21, 2016accident.  This marks Darke County's first fatal accident of 2016.
