Edison State Community College
My position at
Mora Modeling Magazine
By Kate Young
Editor’s Note: Kate
Young is a student at Edison State Community College, Darke County
Campus. She has recently completed an interview with Johanna McGinley,
a star of the TV series, The Outsiders. That interview can be seen here.
Mora Modeling Magazine is a Greenville based fashion magazine created
by Tiffanie Mora. The magazine is a platform in which
up-and-coming models and artists from around the country can submit
their images and be published. MMM hopes to inspire creativity in
a respectful manner; presenting photos in a way that focuses on the art
of the image and not how much skin can be shown. The magazine has
monthly issues featuring a local model on the cover.
I got involved with Tiffanie Mora and MMM through the Darke County
Photo Club. With a shared interest in photography and creating
unique images Tiffanie-- who was the president at the time-- and I
quickly became friends. November of 2015 I was asked if I'd like
to be the visual media producer for MMM which launched its first issue
in January. As a visual media producer I'm in charge of
producing and filming monthly videos to help promote the
magazine. This involves everything from filming photo shoots to
interviewing models and local talent. MMM gives me a wonderful
outlet to express my ideas. If I present a project I'd like to
do, the answer is always "let's see how we can make your vision a
reality." This kind of positive environment has been great
in fostering my creativity and helping me learn the nitty-gritty of
making an idea a reality.
Through MMM I got the chance to interview Johanna McGinley -- A cast
member of the TV series Outsiders. MMM does a monthly spotlight
of talent from around our area. We were lucky enough to snag an
interview with McGinley. The interview process lasted about an
hour. We filmed at the Mora Studio on 5th street and had three
cameras filming. It was my first time performing an on-camera
interview. The experience definitely helped me gain knowledge of
how much preparation and time goes into producing an interview like
this one.
Working at MMM has given me a lot of insight into the fashion and
photography world. I've been interested in film and photography
from a young age and to have this opportunity at MMM has really helped
mold me as an artist. It has helped me realize how much emotion
can play into making an image great and has made me realize that the
best pictures are the ones that give you a taste of your subject's
personality. I'm trying to gain as much knowledge and experience
as I can from this position to hopefully help me decide where I'd like
to go next in my career.
