Avian Influenza
Update
Here is an update from Hoosier Ag Today regarding the Avian Influenza
Outbreak in Southwest Indiana.
Authorities say no additional turkey farms in a southern Indiana county
have tested positive for bird flu since Sunday. Indiana State Board of
Animal Health spokeswoman Denise Derrer said Sunday that 100 farms
tested over 24 hours came back negative. She says that’s a sign control
measures are working. She calls the current bird flu outbreak one of
the worst to strike Indiana and said that containing it could take
weeks.
Thousands of turkeys on the infected farms have been euthanized.
According to the latest BOAH figures, there have been 245,163
turkeys and 153,000 chickens (layers) euthanized thus far. The original
location was identified as having High Pathogenic Avian Flu, while all
other 9 locations have been identified as having Low Pathogenic Avian
Flu.
Please continue to operate with great caution whether you are a
commercial poultry operation or a back yard flock owner.
Biosecurity is our only way to keep this from affected our county.
