Attorney General Mike DeWine
Fair Employment
and Fair Housing Laws Guides issued
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today introduced two
new publications to help employers and landlords navigate Ohio’s fair
employment and fair housing laws.
“Ohio’s civil rights laws protect against discrimination on the job and
in housing. These guides are designed to be straightforward manuals to
help landlords and employers understand their responsibilities under
the law and avoid problems,” Attorney General DeWine said.
The Attorney General’s “Fair Employment Guide for Business Owners”
offers best practices for interviewing potential applicants, crafting
an anti-harassment policy, addressing discrimination or harassment
complaints, and responding to requests for accommodations due to
disability or religion.
The “Fair Housing Guide for Landlords” provides tips on how to
advertise and rent property while avoiding discrimination. It offers
suggestions for screening potential applicants, addressing tenants’
requests for accommodations, and recognizing an animal assistant.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Civil Rights Section represents the Ohio
Civil Rights Commission. It also conducts free presentations on fair
housing and fair employment issues. Organizations that want to request
a presentation should contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Civil Rights
Section at 614-466-7900.
Copies of the Attorney General’s Fair Housing Guide and Fair Employment
Guide are available on the Ohio Attorney General’s website.
