State Representative Steve Huffman
Darke County
Earns Safety Capital Grant
Grants will help fund public safety projects in local communities
COLUMBUS—State Representative Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) today
congratulated Darke County for being named a recipient of the Local
Government Safety Capital Grant funds.
Initiated by the Ohio House of Representatives and included in the
state operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, these grants can
be used to help fund public safety projects in local communities
throughout Ohio.
Local governments could apply for the grants for eligible projects, but
the funding must be used for purchasing vehicles, equipment, facilities
and/or systems utilized by police, fire, and/or EMS providers to
enhance public safety.
“The state is helping local governments, in particular Darke County, in
funding the much-needed fire and police protection,” said Rep. Huffman.
The grant will be used to integrate to the MARCS communication system.
The current structure is outdated and has become difficult to maintain,
which is why the funding will be used to purchase a new communications
tower.
The Local Government Innovation Council administers the program.
