Attorney General Mike DeWine
Father
Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Abuse of Child
(COSHOCTON, Ohio)—Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced today
that a Coshocton County man has been sentenced to prison for abusing
his infant child last year.
This afternoon, Coshocton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Batchelor
sentenced Christian Kibler, 22, of Coshocton, to a prison term of seven
years after the defendant pleaded guilty last month to charges of
felonious assault and endangering children.
Kibler was indicted in May 2015 after an investigation by the Coshocton
County Sheriff's Office found that he traumatically injured his
2-month-old child. The investigation found that Kibler was under the
influence of drugs and alcohol when he harmed the child and did not
immediately seek medical attention for the infant, who was later flown
by medical helicopter to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment.
"This individual failed in his most basic responsibility to protect his
child," said Attorney General DeWine. "And, as the sentence today
indicates, there are serious consequences for those who harm innocent,
defenseless children."
The child has since recovered from the injuries and is in the custody
of his mother, who was not present when the abuse took place.
The case was prosecuted by attorneys with the Attorney General's
Special Prosecutions Section working as part of Attorney General
DeWine's Crimes Against Children Initiative.
