Students Compete in Xtreme BOTS
Two teams of Edison State Community College students competed in the
Ohio Robotics Xtreme BOTS Regional Competition at the Wright State
University Nutter Center in Dayton on Saturday, April 2.
Xtreme BOTS is a program that encourages students from the Dayton
region to design and build custom, remote controlled robots to face-off
in competition. The event is held bi-annually for students to gain
hands-on practical knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Math (STEM), which are essential in fulfilling the demand for skilled
workers in the manufacturing industry.
The first team representing Edison State is referred to as “The
Dastardlies” and will face-off in competition with their robot, “The
Mean Machine.” Team Dastardlies includes Josh Bulcher of Versailles,
Max Mitchell of Piqua, and Austin Sims of Piqua.
“The Chargers” make up the second team representing Edison State and
they will compete with their robot, “Tesla.” The team includes students
Brittany Eilerman of Sidney, Austin Poeppelman of Russia, and Logan
Walters of Piqua.
According to their website, Ohio Robotics is working to expand the
Xtreme BOTS competition in coming years, as well as, support year-round
STEM initiatives to further promote and engage students toward career
paths in manufacturing.
Both teams, comprised of engineering students, are led by David Barth,
Associate Professor of Electronics Engineering Technology. Edison State
wishes both teams the best of luck as their robots face-off one-on-one
against the competition.
