Where’s the ham?
Celebrating Dr.
Seuss
By Bob Robinson
Do you like green eggs and ham
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
Dr. Seuss’ birthday was March 2 and there has been a week-long
celebration in Greenville. Woodland students dressed “wacky,” ‘Cat in
the Hat’ hats have popped up ‘here and there,’ and some of the good
doctor’s most popular books have been shared during reading time
throughout the building.
In Mrs. Fisher’s class, paraprofessional Beverly Deskin prepared a
special treat… the kids built their own “green eggs” straight out of
the imaginary frying pan. Then ate them.
In Miss Hiatt’s class, students reportedly had hard-boiled green eggs.
Other classes celebrated in their own way… and students got a good dose
of more than 45 Seuss offerings from “Cat in the Hat” to “If I Ran the
Zoo” and others.
In the classic “Green Eggs and Ham,” the narrator keeps telling Sam I
Am he does not like green eggs and ham… does not like them with a mouse
or in a house, does not like them here or there, does not like them
anywhere; then finally, wraps up with…
I do so like green eggs and ham!
Thank you!
Thank you, Sam-I-am
From all reports students enjoyed their home-made green eggs. Their
only complaint? Where’s the ham?
According to seussville.com Dr. Seuss revolutionized how children are
taught to read. The National Education Association celebrates Dr.
Seuss’ birthday annually on March 2 with its Read Across America
program. The ground-breaking author would have been 112 years old on
Wednesday.
