Weather; Corn
& Beef Cattle Newsletters
From Sam Custer
Jim Noel from the National Weather Service shared with us on our call
yesterday that we will be 5-10 degrees cooler this week with “nuisance”
precipitation this week. He believes we will see between .1 and
.3 inches of rain Wednesday thru Thursday. Next week we will see
temperatures 5-10 degrees above normal with normal precipitation (1
inch per week). The second half of May you will see above normal
temperatures and below normal precipitation.

As we’ve taught fertilizer certification classes the past two years,
it’s been interesting to see the reaction of some when we explain that
an ‘average’ annual Ohio hay yield removes as much potash from the soil
as a 600 bushel corn grain yield does! This week Mark Landefeld
discusses how to use fertilizer nutrients wisely in forage producing
fields.
Articles this week include:
Fertilizing Forages: Using Nutrients Wisely
Baleage: An Option in Better Haymaking
Cattle On Feed
