COLUMBUS - Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) was joined by State
Senator Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) this week to present a Senate gavel to
the Ohio Nurses Association. The gavel was used when the Ohio Senate
unanimously passed Senate Bill 233, legislation to create the "Ohio
Nurses Association" license plate.
“Nurses are a vital part of our healthcare system, and they are often
the first line of defense and support for Ohioans facing a simple
procedure or a life-threatening condition,” Faber said. “I am proud to
recognize their service and dedication to their profession.”
Funds from the newly created license plate will also assist nurses
currently in the profession seeking to advance their education and
those conducting nursing research to improve patient outcomes and
support evidence based practice.
President Faber and Senator Hughes presented a Resolution recognizing
National Nurses Week May 6-12, 2016. The Ohio Nurses Association
represents more than 160,000 registered nurses in Ohio.
“The funds raised from the sale of these license plates will go
directly to the Foundation to fund scholarships for those who want to
become a nurse, one of the oldest and most highly regarded professions
in the country,” Hughes said.
National Nurses Week is celebrated each year to commemorate the birth
of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and to provide
an opportunity to acknowledge the important contributions nurses have
made to the American healthcare system.
Senate Bill 233 now awaits consideration in Ohio House of
Representatives.
