Rolling 50s Classic Car Show
Top honor goes
to Pontiac wagon in 2016 show
By Bob Robinson
As the sun begins to set on the 38th annual Rolling 50s Classic Car
show on South Broadway Sept. 10, the visitors and Rolling 50s club
members tallied their votes for the Best of Show… a 1956 Pontiac Safari
Wagon, owned by Carol Sakal of New Lebanon, Ohio.
Dozens more trophies were handed out to various category winners
following the presentation of donations to local charities and the
announcement of the 50/50 drawing winner, David George. Three charities
– Cancer Association of Darke County, Shriners and Empowering Darke
County Youth – were recipients of this year’s donations.
Awards followed a full day of visitors strolling up and down Broadway,
from Annie Oakley Park to the Greenville Circle, checking out Chevys,
Fords, Cadillacs, Pontiacs, Model Ts and much more. Many were listening
and dancing to oldies music from such greats as Elvis Presley, Beach
Boys, Ray Charles, The Supremes and more!
Despite gray skies and a 10-minute bout of rain, the show entertained
hundreds of people from Greenville, Darke County and surrounding areas.
The 1950s Hula Hoop craze was once again kept alive and well by two
young ladies, one of whom had been operating her “hula hoop” non-stop
for well over two and a half hours.
