Dean Chad Beanblossom, Edison State Community College, Darke County
Campus: This is Great!! The work Empowering Darke County Youth is doing
in our community is outstanding. Edison State Darke County Campus is
thrilled to be a part of this tremendous service to our community and
we look forward to serving these students in the future. Thanks for all
you do!!
Andrea Townsend, Director of Administrative & Pupil Services,
Greenville City School District: I am thrilled at the response that we
have had to the program! It seems to be growing each day. I
am excited to see the growth students make while in the program!
Thanks again for coordinating this opportunity for students and
families!
Krista Stump, Retired Principal, Ansonia School District: I appreciate
the diligence kids used doing homework.
From the student volunteers…
Note: Some students are participating in this program as part of their
term communication assignment.
I really enjoy working with the students. They are really nice group of
kids. I hope that they get a lot of information from all of us helping
them. Niveka Gregg, Composition I student, Edison State Community
College.
This is a great opportunity for the kids to learn to read and write
well. Cade McGlinch, Composition I and Fundamentals of Communication
student, Edison State.
This last week, I had a great opportunity to work with kids in this
community who needed some extra help with their school work. It really
is a rewarding program that I have already, and look forward to,
helping with. Not only does it help the kids, this after school program
benefits all of those who become involved. Kloey Murphey, Composition I
student, Edison State.
Edison's after school tutoring program is an amazing program that I had
the opportunity to participate in last week. It was wonderful to get to
pour into these kids, after so many years of others pouring into me.
Julia Mellott, Composition I student, Edison State.
The after school program provides a safe, helpful environment to Darke
County youth. I think it is a beneficial program for the kids involved;
it allows them to receive an extra level of academic help that they
might not be able to receive at home or at school. Hannah Myers,
Composition I student, Edison State.
I love that the program allows me to work with the kids because you
never know who is looking up to you sometimes when you’re a busy
college student. So it’s nice to take time to slow down and help others
in many ways. Cierra Rinehart, Fundamentals of Communication Student,
Edison State.
I enjoy helping the kids with their homework and their reading. It is a
great opportunity for us to learn more about working with children.
Cole McGlinch, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
It's great being able to help the kids understand and seeing how they
react when they understand or learn something. Madisyn Piepel,
Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The after school program is a really good program for both the
volunteers and children to be involved in. I feel its a very good
experience to have because some children don't get the help they need
and we are doing that for them. Haley Shuttleworth, Fundamentals of
Communication Student, Edison State.
The Edison after school program provides a perfect opportunity for the
adults and kids involved to truly grow as people. Jim Kildow,
Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
Working with the kids is a great opportunity to help them and gets me
to talk more. Seth Phillipi, Fundamentals of Communication Student,
Edison State.
The after school program is an amazing tool that inspires and empowers
the next generation. It gives the children a role model to look up to
and a new friend. Not only are there fun opportunities, but there is a
set time for the students to put in their max effort. Every day that I
am with the kids it puts a smile on my face and encourages me to
continue on. The program is not only about academic success, it's about
empowering the kids to do more with their lives and put in the extra
effort. Hard work must be shown to be learned. The program has many, if
not all, good aspects. Our goal is not just to "help" the kids with
homework. The empowerment of the next generation is our goal. Shayna
Emrick, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The after school program is a frustrating but uplifting experience. I
spend hours helping this 4th grade boy, trying to keep him motivated to
do his work. This becomes very frustrating, but it is a good feeling
because I am helping this young student and have formed a friendship
with him. Trevor Collins, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison
State.
The after school program has affected me in many ways. It has made me
appreciate our community and Edison as a whole. It shows that people
understand the difficulties children and parents have during the day. I
think the program has given me a better understanding of all sorts of
lifestyles. Makenzie Kreitzer, Fundamentals of Communication Student,
Edison State.
Getting to watch these kids grow and learn more and build friendships
is completely amazing. Marissa Marburger, Fundamentals of Communication
Student, Edison State.
It's nice to see older kids helping the younger kids with school work.
Judge Welbaum, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
I believe that it is fantastic that we are given the opportunity to
help local kids and make a difference in their lives. Everyone should
have some support when it comes to their education. A little push from
early on will make a huge impact in the way they will do later in life.
Nicole Berry, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The kids are great! For me a lot more energy than I had. The program is
good for the kids. It teaches them responsibility and time management.
I believe the program will have a positive influence in our community.
Mac Kirk, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The after school program is an amazing program. I have helped a student
read who didn't know how to read, helped a student with math homework.
I think this is a growing community service that I believe is helping
students in a safe learning and friendly environment. Sam Buchy,
Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The good qualities about the after school program would be that the
kids get all of their homework done and the parents don't have to worry
about it once they're home. The kids have tutors that are only a little
older than them (teens), and I feel like that helps them to connect
with us. Sydney Anderson, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison
State.
It felt kind of like babysitting... especially the last hour. It was
cool to see kids working together to learn. Maggie Hedrick,
Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
The after school program presents the opportunity for K-4 grade
students to get help with homework from people who are not parents or
teachers. Being with adults who are also in school I think makes the
learning more fun for the kids. I also enjoy volunteering because it
gives me the opportunity to give back to the community who had an
impact on my education and successes. Courtney Toops, Fundamentals of
Communication Student, Edison State.
I like the after school program. I think it is beneficial to the kids,
especially the ones who need it. I feel like I am mostly baby sitting
them to make sure they do their homework, which is fine. Kaielyn
Kingrey, Fundamentals of Communication Student, Edison State.
