DCCA’s Aladdin starred 82 local youngsters

Darke County Center for the Arts presented two performances of Missoula Children Theatre's production of Aladdin starring local students at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall on Saturday, August 5. Described as a swirling sandstorm of famous Arabian Tales featuring memorable characters from Ali Baba to Sinbad the Sailor, this adventurous musical play is designed to garner 1001 gasps of delight from audiences of all ages.

Eighty-two youngsters turned out on Monday, July 31 to audition for the 60 available roles in the production which will be created in one short week. Cameron Clark will play the title character, while Aladdin's Mother will be acted by Madison Kinner. Sarah Crumrine won the role of Princess Dory, whose father, the Sultan will be played by Gavin Mills. Isaac Gully was cast as the Sultan's advisor, the Grand Vizier. The keepers of the Book of Answers, sisters Dinazade and Scheherazade will be played by Briannah Harshbarger and Allie Tanner.

The mischievous Genies will be played by Katelyn Conway, Maya Conway, and Abby Swenson; Tessa Tyo will act as The Mysterious One. The stubborn Donkey will be portrayed by Grace Krauss, and Evan VanSkyock has the role of the spunky Goat.

Hayden Stewart will act as Ali Baba, while scheming Cassim will be played by Isabel Rawlins. The role of Sinbad was won by Maxwell Jordan; Lydia Ayette, Isabella Gulley, Henry Jordan, Abby Krauss, Hope Misel, Liz Randolph, Anna Stump, Karis Wright, and Zeke Wright will play Sinbad's band of Sailors. Allie Misel and Haddi Treon will portray the wise-cracking Palm Trees, and the fleet-footed Camels will be played by Charlie Dickey, Eliya Harshbarger, and Ella Williams. Alia Ayette, Lauren King, Cierra Miller, Elizabeth Moss, and Rachel Wright will act as the Wonders found in the Cave of (not-so-great) Wonders.

A pack of lost Penguins wandering through the desert will be played by Kenyon Browner, Kaden Harrison, Lydia Harshbarger, Taylor Holzapfel, Nalayna Miley, Nola Miley, Julia Misel, Elouise Sando, Paul Todd and Daniel Williams. William Aultman, Zoe Ayette, Sarah Marie Buchy, Eli Cornett, Ivy Henne, Molly Krauss, Nevan Miley, Lillian Price, Christopher Shaltry, Tessa Stewart, and Malachi Wright will act as the Vagabonds.

Seth Shaffer, Austin Shaltry, Bradley Stewart, and Haddi Treon will serve as Assistant Directors, who will assist the MCT staff throughout the week. MCT Actor/Director Christina Heagney will be playing the part of the Genie; Ben Hermann is the other MCT Director in charge of the week-long theatre residence. Mary Alice Newbauer will serve as Accompanist for the performance.

DCCA received funding from Darke County Endowment for the Arts which helped make possible the week-long theatre residency by Missoula Children's Theatre. Additionally, the Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DCCA also receives funding from Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Ketrow Foundation and Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, as well as DCCA memberships.
