More than 1,200 Registered for Statewide Meeting on Opiate Epidemic

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine recently hosted his second statewide meeting addressing Ohio's opioid epidemic.

More than 1,200 people, including representatives from 80 of Ohio's 88 counties, are registered to attend the event, entitled "Ideas in Motion -- Fighting Ohio's Drug Epidemic." The event will bring together community officials and the public from across the state to discuss methods that have shown success in fighting the problem. Interested parties from several other states, including Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, New Mexico, Missouri, Florida, and Maryland will also be in attendance.

Among the topics that were discussed are:

How anti-drug abuse coalitions are finding new and effective ways to collaborate with law enforcement, mental health providers, and hospitals to save lives;

How the state is working to establish a continuum of care that will assist individuals struggling with addiction from detox to recovery;

How the criminal justice system is responding through law enforcement task forces, drug courts, and the prosecution of drug dealers;

An overview of the Ohio Joint Study Committee on Drug Use Prevention Education Report and recommendations about incorporating drug education in all grade levels.
