MVCTC Hospitality Services Students Win Awards

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Hospitality Services students recently participated in several FCCLA events. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is an organization whose student members are eligible for participation in state and national programs, chapter activities and competitive events. These experiences provide students with an opportunity to become strong leaders in family, career and community life.

The junior class completed a “Power of One” project in which they set a goal in each of five areas: A Better You, Family Ties, Working on Working, Take the Lead and Speak Out for FCCLA. Each student assembled a binder showcasing their goals and accomplishments and presented their binder during an interview with a judge. Each student who completed the binder successfully met all the requirements and was invited to the FCCLA State Convention in Columbus to receive a plaque. The juniors who successfully completed the Power of One Project are: Alexis Conley (Vandalia), Keara Corder (Tri County North), Francesca Shellabarger (Franklin Monroe), Shainna League (Tri County North), Johlin Garrison (Northridge), Nathaniel McKenzie (Northmont) and Destiny Lowery (Northmont).

MVCTC Hospitality Services teacher, Tammi Newbourn, said of the events, “Power of One helps students find and use their personal power. Members set their own goals, work to achieve them, and enjoy the results. Each project focuses on the following areas: A Better You, Family Ties, Working on working, Take the Lead and Speak Out for FCCLA.”
