Stacys accept DAR
Distinguished Citizen Medal
National Defense DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal and certificate was
awarded to U.S. Navy Petty Officer Kenton Stacy. His parents David and
Tracey accepted the medal for Kenton. He is currently getting medical
treatment in Houston, Texas.
Stacy, a 2002 graduate of Greenville High School, is recovering from
injuries sustained as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED),
which exploded during a hospital sweep in Syria on Nov. 9, 2017.
The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal is presented to an individual, 18
years of age and older, who fulfills the qualities of honor, service,
courage, leadership, and patriotism. The DAR Distinguished Citizen
Medal may be awarded to emergency first responders. active duty
military and veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and citizens
who have contributed to the defense and/or security, and thereby the
freedom, of the community, state, or nation in an exceptional manner.
Following a prayer by Chapter Chaplain Karen Burkett, Regent Debbie
Nisonger presented the medal. Nisonger stated, “The DAR presents this
medal to Kenton Stacy, who has gone above and beyond his call of duty
for our great nation,”.
DAR members in attendance were Chris Nehring, Debbie Nisonger, Linda
Bundy, Helen Wright, Doris Aultman, Karen Burkett. Also in attendance
were veterans Mick Maher and Larry McLear along with wife Carol,
Greenville City Council President John Burkett, Darke County
Commissioner Matt Aultman, and Carolyn Fisher of Greenville Public
Library’s Genealogy Department.
