Darke County Sheriff
Two injury accidents
on U.S. 127
Injury accident at
U.S. 127 and Kruckeberg Road
On August 28, 2018 at approximately 5:07 pm Darke County Deputies along
with Greenville Township Fire, Greenville Township Rescue and
Versailles Life Squad were dispatched to the intersection of US RT 127
and Kruckeberg Road in reference to an injury accident involving a
semi-tractor trailer and a car.
Preliminary investigation revealed a red 2003 Chevy Cavalier driven by
Cassie L. Rapier (19) of Union City, Indiana was stopped eastbound on
Kruckeberg Road at US RT 127 at the posted stop sign. Rapier
failed to yield after the stop sign traveling into the path of the
southbound 1998 maroon International semi-tractor trailer driven by
Jesse Shaffer (19) of New Paris, Ohio. US RT 127 at Kruckeberg
Road was closed for approximately 2 hours.
Cassie Rapier was extricated by mechanical means and transported to
Wayne HealthCare by Greenville Township Rescue. Rapier’s front
seat passenger, Craig Cable was also transported to Wayne HealthCare by
Greenville Township Rescue. Rapier and Cable had non life
threatening injuries. Jesse Shaffer was transported to Wayne
HealthCare by Versailles Life Squad with minor injuries.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office.
Injury accident at
U.S. 127 and S.R. 503
On August 31, 2108 at 7:22 p.m. Darke County Sheriff Deputies along
with Tri Village Rescue, Arcanum Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue,
Arcanum Fire Department, New Madison Fire Department, Miami Valley
Careflight, and Medflight responded to the intersection at US Route 127
and State Route 503 on an injury accident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound 2012 Black Fiat
driven by Brenten Peters (27), of Upland, Indiana, was turning
southeast onto State Route 503. The vehicle Mr. Peters was
driving entered into the path of a northbound 2000 tan GMC Yukon driven
by Jodie Turner (55), of Arcanum Ohio.
Ms. Turner was taken by Greenville Rescue to Wayne Hospital and Mr.
Peters was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Medflight. A
passenger in the Fiat, Elizabeth Riley (25), of Marion, Indiana, had to
be extricated from the vehicle. Ms. Riley was taken to Miami
Valley Hospital by Careflight and is listed in serious condition.
The condition of Mr. Peters and Ms. Turner are unknown.
A small canine was also found in the Fiat during the extrication and
the Darke County Animal Shelter came to the scene to remove the
animal. The animal will be taken care of at the Darke County
Animal Shelter until the owner is able to retrieve their
canine.
This accident remains under investigation.
