Third Annual Majority Walk well attended
By Nathan Bowen
Edison State Communications Student
It was a chilly morning. With students having no school, it was a good
turn out. Several students got to speak about being apart of the
Majority. A coworker of mine had her daughter speak too.
One student spoke about when they started this program at their school
during lunch. They would opt out hanging with others; instead they
would take part in the program. It started out with only two
individuals. Now it's in the teens. Just about every school district in
Darke County had at least one student involved.
Another student spoke about choosing not to take part in any drugs
because he plans on getting a sports scholarship next year after
graduation. He said he couldn't ever get a scholarship if he was on
drugs.
It was an exciting event. I would so love to take part in more
community events just like this one in the near future.
The 3rd Annual WATM Awareness Walk was held Monday. It kicked off
at the Annie Oakley Statue on Broadway in Greenville and concluded with
a Proclamation, followed by adult and teen speakers. The walk
supported teens who take a stand to be drug, alcohol and tobacco free
in Darke County as a MAJORITY of teens are drug-free.
