A bright future in the swine barn
First time presenter takes top honors
By Brandy Lewis

GREENVILLE- There is a new girl in the swine barn and her name is Lux Ernst.

At the age of nine, she won her class in Junior Showmanship at the Great Darke County Fair's Swine Showmanship show Sunday.

As a member of the Livestock In General 4-H club, this was only her first year and it's started out great for her. Ernst attends Tri-Village elementary school and will start back to school the week after fair.

Ernst was showing her hog "Wilbur" during the showmanship show but has a second hog at fair named "Baby."  Both of her hogs are market hogs and she gets to sell one of them at the swine sale this week.

Her favorite part of taking a 4-H hog to fair was, "I enjoyed walking my hogs."

"Hard work pays off," she added.

Her mom worked with her and helped teach her, "How to make a pig do what she wanted it to do."

Ernst beat five in her class to win the 8-year-old and youngest division of showmanship in the Junior Showmanship contest for her trophy at the Great Darke County Fair.

Good luck to Ernst as she continues her 4-H venture. This young lady will be someone to contend with in the future.
