Edison State Volleyball Clinches No. 2 Seed in NJCAA D-II District Tournaments
The Edison State Community College women’s volleyball team, who
competes in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC), is
seeded number 2 in the Region XII Great Lakes District A Tournament.
They will face number 3 seed Oakland Community College from Bloomfield
Hills, MI, who competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic
Association (MCCAA). The teams will compete at 6 p.m. on Thursday,
November 7, 2019.
“Traditionally, Oakland has been a strong team, but they lost a set to
Lakeland Community College earlier in the season, a team we have
defeated twice. We’re pretty evenly matched, so it will be a good
game,” said Head Volleyball Coach Julia Haupricht.
Haupricht will lean on the leadership of sophomores Sarah Pothast, of
Wapakoneta, and Whitney Pleiman, of Russia, to pull out a win in the
first round of tournament action.
“Whitney Pleiman is a great defensive player, who is leading Edison
State in the number of career digs with about 1,700, she’s on track to
set a college record. So, it will be interesting to see how many more
she’ll get as she competes in the postseason.”
“Sarah Pothast is a key offensive player, producing about ten kills per
game. We can count on her when we need to score,” added Haupricht.
Haupricht and the Lady Chargers are taking the postseason play one step at a time.
“Right now, our focus is to come out on top in the first round of tournaments with a win.”
Winners of Thursday’s game will advance to the semi-final and district
championship game, which will be played on Friday, November 8, 2019,
and Saturday, November 9, 2019. District champions will then advance to
the national tournament.
All D-II District Tournament games will be played at St. Clair County
Community College (SC4) Fieldhouse located at 323 Erie St. in Port
Huron, Michigan. Admission is $10 per person.
The Edison State women’s volleyball team finished their regular season 13-16 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
