Student Leaders Bring School Spirit to Greenville Middle School
Greenville Middle School has a new group of Student Leaders who are
excited to build school spirit and give back to the community. With the
direction of their advisors Mr. Curtis and Mr. Miller, the Leaders have
volunteered to run the concession stand during home volleyball games
and organized Homecoming activities.
On Friday, October 4, Student Leaders organized a pep assembly to kick
off Homecoming Week. Elementary and Middle school students filled the
stands and chanted as the GMS cheerleaders led them in cheers of “WE’VE
GOT SPIRIT YEAH!” and “IF YOU WANNA WIN YOU GOTTA YELL WITH ALL YOUR
MIGHT!” In the hula-hoop and free throw competitions, Student Leaders
chose students from the audience to compete against staff members. At
the end of the assembly, Student Leaders recognized athletes from fall
sports - football, cross country, cheerleading, volleyball, and tennis.
During the week of Homecoming, Student Leaders adopted the Spirit Week
theme from the High School which was “Greenville Will Show You Up.”
Each day of the week, students were asked to dress a certain way to
make a connection to a popular television show. For example, on Monday
students were asked to wear casual business attire, as the theme was
“The Office.” Student participation was calculated and the class with
the highest participation rate was awarded a donut party sponsored by
the Student Leaders.
Leaders are making plans for future projects. They are interested in
organizing another pep assembly, coordinating a school dance, and
holding a food drive to donate to a local food bank.
