Denver Shirl Baker
Denver Shirl Baker, age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday,
August 12, 2011 at 3:00 AM at his residence. He was born on
January 27, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Jesse W. &
Frances (Fourman) Baker.
Denver was a farmer and also worked at
Corning. He was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren
and was a former member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren
where he was Deacon at both. Shirl was a volunteer for the
Brethren Home and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed buying and
rebuilding farm equipment. He served with the Civilian Public
Service. He was a dedicated Christian and a very loving and
devoted family man.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death
by his first wife, Phyllis Ann (Pearson) Baker; son, Dennis Gene Baker;
brothers, Delbert and Paul Baker; sister, Thelma Knowlton.
He is survived by his second wife, Kathleen (Swank)
Rife Baker of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on June 6, 1992; son,
Philip D. Baker of Indianapolis, IN; daughter and son in law, Doris J.
& Don Yoder of Goshen, IN; step son and daughter in law, Jim &
Lois Rife of Greenville; step daughter and son in law, Pamela &
Bruce Rhoades of Troy, OH; daughter in law, Carol Baker Cheeks of
Kentucky; grandchildren, Jerry (Kris) Baker, Gary (Barbara) Baker, Tom
(Kristy) Baker, Carla (Brian) Smith, Denise (Patrick) Tolbert, and
David Yoder; 11 grandchildren; step grandchildren, Jonathan Rhoades,
Timothy Rife, Jennifer Peters, Matthew Rife, and Joseph Rife; 2 step
great grandsons; sister, Betty McCune of Tuscan, Arizona; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Tuesday, August 16,
2011 at 10:30 AM at Greenville Church of the Brethren, 421 Central
Avenue, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery, Gettysburg, Ohio.
Family will receive friends on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 5-8 PM at
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as one hour prior
to the service at church.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial
contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice or Greenville
