Betty Ellen (Oliver) Oehrtman, 85, of Versailles, passed from time to
eternity at the Versailles Health Care Center on Wednesday, August 17,
2011 at 9:00 a.m.
She was born the morning of May 18, 1926 near Castine, OH, to Rolliance
(R.W.) and Sadie (Rush) Oliver who proceeded her in death. Her
childhood sweetheart, best friend, and faithful husband of 55 years,
Richard and brothers Ostia and Irene Oliver, Merle and Alta Oliver, and
sister Ralph and Annabel Nixon are all having a grand reunion with her
now.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela "Pennie" of Versailles who was
her full-time caregiver for the last year of her life, her son Lemuel
of Deer Lodge, Montana; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
During WWII she worked at the Waco Aircraft Company in Troy, Ohio for
two summers before graduating with the Versailles High School Class of
1944. She later worked for Poultry Producers and Weaver Brothers.
During the final years of their lives, she cared for her mother and
father-in-law in her home. For 25 years she was a groomer of small dogs.
Living a full and meaningful life, she was a Girl Scout Leader, the
organizer and leader of Versailles Christian Church's Service Guild
(who prepares funeral dinners), a member and Treasurer of the
Versailles Council of Church's, a member of the Greenville Area Dog
Club, and the Humane Society of the United States. Her many hobbies
included reading, sewing, quilting, painting pictures, gardening,
canning, camping, and traveling, especially to see her son. Over the
years, she was the owner of 13 dogs and 5 cats most of which were
adopted.
A celebration service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 20 at the
Versailles Christian Church with Pastors Dennis Wheeler and Virgil
Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in
Greenville Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the
services at the church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be given
to the Versailles Emergency Medical Services.
