Harold R. Apple
Harold R. Apple, age 76, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday,
July 23, 2011 at 11:12 PM at his residence. He was born on May
30, 1935 in Darke County, Ohio, to late Norbert Wayne & Louise
(Lindsey) Apple.
Harold was an over the road truck driver for 40 years when he retired
from Classic Carriers in Versailles, Ohio. He was a SGT in the
United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the VETS club,
American Legion, and Truckers Association. He attended the United
Church of Christ in Versailles. Harold loved his family and
grandchildren. He was involved with the Apple Racing Team and was
an avid reader and loved camping and Biking. Harold loved and was
a regular at the Sweet Shop in Versailles.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother,
William W. Apple.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jane (Booher) Apple of Versailles,
Ohio, whom he married on October 12, 1957; sons and daughters in law,
Richard “Rick” & Michel Apple of Madison, Mississippi and
Christopher & Candace Apple of Versailles; daughters and sons in
law, Denise & Mike Weyrick of Arcanum, Ohio, Jill & Tom
Kuntzman of Columbus, Ohio, and Beth & Scott Subler of Versailles;
grandchildren, Kimberly, David, Lindsey, Jason, Marcus, Janell, Laura,
Bryant, Jack, Erich, Jared, Jennifer, Ashlyn, and Denver; great
grandchildren, Jason, Max and Troy; brother and sister in law, Tom
& Janit Apple of Hebron, Ohio; sisters and brothers in law, Shirley
& Keith Spitzer of Versailles and Marilyn & George Riegle of
Troy, Ohio; sister in law, Sharon Apple of North Star, Ohio; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at
10:30 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor
Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn
Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on
Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home as well as one
hour prior to the service on Thursday. There will be a graveside
military service conducted by the Versailles Honor Guard.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to
the Darke County Cancer Association, Versailles Life Squad, or Donor’s
