Benjamin “Ben” T. Smith
Benjamin “Ben” T. Smith, age 79 of Gettysburg, Ohio passed away on Saturday February 11, 2012 at 3:35 PM at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. He was born August 25, 1932 in Adams Twp. Darke County, Ohio, the son of the late Vern & Mae (Kunkle) Smith. He was a retiree of Hobart Manufacturing where he worked as a machinist; he also served as a volunteer fireman for the Gettysburg Fire Department for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Wife: Catherine “Kate” Smith on January 6, 2011 whom he married March 29, 1952; Brothers: Paul & Ezra Smith; Sister in law: Marilyn Smith.
He is survived by his Daughter & son in law: Sandra & David Hartley of Arcanum, Ohio; Son & daughter in law: Jim & Cindy Smith of Melbourne, Florida; Grandchildren: Talia Barga, McKalee Weidner, Carmen Trippier, Natalie Wolfe, Jill Loughnane, & Brandon Hartley; 10 great grandchildren; Sister in law: Mary Smith of Greenville, Ohio; Brother in law & sister in law: Sam & Mary Kissinger of Arcanum; Sister in law & brother in law: Pat & Adrian Petitjean of Versailles.
Services will be held on Thursday February 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Gettysburg Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.
