James "Jim" Leonard Pequignot

James “Jim” Leonard Pequignot, died Friday, August 23, 2013, two weeks after his 85th birthday, and nearly 29 years after beating his first cancer diagnosis.

Born in Versailles OH in Darke County to Leonard and Marie Pequignot, Jim graduated from Versailles High School after being expelled from Greenville High during his senior year for “knowing more than the teacher,” or so the legend goes.

Jim is survived by Edie, who, with compassion and grace, stood by his side and assisted him his last several months.  He is also survived by three sons, Steve, m. Lynne, and granddaughter, Isabelle who, with her grandfather’s blessing, will miss his funeral to begin her freshman year at Mount Holyoke College with him watching proudly from above; Don, m. Livia; Glenn and grandson Jonathan; daughter, Janel; grandson Brian Dean; three great grandsons; brother Gene, m. Dee; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, sisters Jo Ann and Marilyn, and brother Joe.

Jim retired from the Air Force after serving 22 honorable years in places including San Antonio, Chanute, Klamath Falls, England, Taiwan, Japan, and TDY in Vietnam and the Phillipines.

After retirement, Jim went on to a technology career.  For many years he was active with Kettering Rotarians.  He enjoyed reading, US, world and military history, bowling, ceramics and art, and, to the chagrin of his children, Rush Limbaugh and country music.

The family wishes to express great appreciation to Christina McKinley, his dedicated caregiver the past months.

Visitation at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, August 28, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, 1499 N. Broadway, Greenville OH, followed by funeral service at 2:30.  Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight, dedicated to transporting our nation’s military heroes to visit their memorials in DC, or the Cancer Association of Darke County.  A Full Military Service will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.

Condolences for the family may be expressed through www.zecharbailey.com
