Melvin M. "Bud"
Spencer
Melvin M. “Bud” Spencer, age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on
Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville,
Ohio. He was born on September 25, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio, to
the late Melvin P. & Marie (Dill) Spencer.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Helen V. (Yohey) Spencer of Greenville,
Ohio, whom he married on August 26, 1946; sons and daughters in law,
Melvin L. & Ginger Spencer of Columbus, Ohio, and Jack D. &
Sandy Spencer of Vandalia, Ohio; daughter and son in law, Cinda S.
& Sam George of Medway, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 8 great
grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; sister in law Shirley Yohey
of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents he is preceded in death by his sons, Steven
and Terry Spencer; sisters, Nellie Leas, Doris Thomas, Perdita Baird
and Mary Slade.
Melvin was a member of the United States Navy serving in WWII. He
was a self-employed Farmer, was involved with the Darke County Plowing
Organization where he was the past president, a member of the Palestine
Church of Christ and American Legion #245 in New Madison and was the
past president. He loved wood working.
There will be a service held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:30 AM at
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Gary Cloyd
officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft.
Jefferson, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 28,
2013 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. There will be a
full military service conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.
