Charles L. Prether
Charles L. Prether age 86, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:15 A.M.
on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community. Mr.
Prether was born October 28, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio. He was the son
of the late John and Tressie Prether.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army, he
came back to Darke County to farm the family farm. For many years, he
was employed by and retired from Provico Inc. Mr. Prether was a
lifelong member of Beech Grove Church of the Brethren serving in many
different ways through the years. Throughout his life, he was an active
member of the community. A few of his activities were serving on the
Liberty Local School District school board first as a member then as
board president, being a 4-H Advisor, volunteering for State of the
Heart Hospice and most recently serving as a member of the Darke County
Planning Commission.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 64 years, Edith (Curtner), daughter
Deborah Wiltshire and husband David of Plymouth, Michigan, son Terry
Prether and wife Kris Stred of Kirkland, Washington, sister Juanita
Mikesell and brother in law Bob of Greenville, Ohio, and brother Robert
Prether and wife Lucy of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Brooke and Tyler Conn,
Matt Prether and fiancée, Ellie Peterson, Mark and Teresa Wiltshire,
Eric and Malina Wiltshire, Lara and Nathan Ray and Katie Davis. Great
grandchildren are Eli and Madelyn Conn, Brennen and William Wiltshire,
and Chloe Ray. He will be missed by his other brothers and sisters in
law, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
A private graveside service will be held at the discretion of the
family. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30
P.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community
Chapel 750 Chestnut Street Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish
officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 6, 2013
from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. at the Chapel. Arrangements are under the
direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community
