William D. Rhoades
William D. Rhoades age 86, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday,
May 7, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. William was born
September 6, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Fern W. & Lelia
(Strait) Rhoades.
William was involved in farming most of his life in the Greenville
area. He was also retired from the Greenville Post Office following 37
½ years as a rural mail carrier.
William was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in
Greenville; member of the Darke County Farm Bureau; member of the
Darke County, Ohio and National Plowing Associations; served on the
Darke County Fair Board for 18 years; past member of the National Brown
Swiss Cattle Association; past member of the Greenville Board of
Education; member and past master in 1958 of the Greenville Masonic
Lodge No. 143 F&AM; member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite,
Valley of Dayton where he was a 32nd degree Mason; and was proud of his
46 consecutive years of planting corn.
In addition to his parents, William is also preceded in death by his
1st wife, Janet L. (Ashman) Rhoades on November 20, 1995; two
granddaughters, Krista Rhoades and Kylie Rhoades; brothers, Richard
Wayne Rhoades and Ned Rhoades; and a sister, Betty Lee Lewis.
William is survived by his 2nd wife, Wilma (Lephart) “McKibben” Rhoades
whom he married November 1999; daughters & sons-in-law, Kathy &
George O’Dell, Cindy & Bruce Hunt and Alyce Ann & Bruce Hirsch
all of Greenville; sons & daughters-in-law, Dick & Pam Rhoades,
Chris & Jan Rhoades and Doug & Leslie Rhoades all of
Greenville; grandchildren, Betsy & Randy Gourley, Tara & Jeff
Fuhrhop, Molly & Jason Riehle, Dawn & Rick Baker, Kristin
O’Dell, Dennis Rhoades, Angela & Mike Moore, Seth Rhoades, Jed
& Amy Rhoades, Heather & Tracy Brown, Nathan & Lori Hunt,
Holly & Adam Marchal, Ben & Kayla Hirsch, Hannah Rhoades, Sarah
Rhoades, Samuel Rhoades and Carrie Rhoades; great-grandchildren, Kayla
O’Dell, Colin and Piper Gourley, Will, Tessa and Emily Riehle, Graham
Fuhrhop, Aaron and Taylor Jackson, Corbin, Cooper, Saige, Addison,
Tylyn and Kylie Rhoades, Riley, Cooper and Meredith Hunt, Foster and
Stuart Brown, Cody Durst, Landon and Braxton Marchal, and Americus and
Emma Hirsch; step children, Donna & Frank McKibben of Missouri, Tim
& Sylvia McKibben of Greenville, Karen & Nathan Sharp of
Greenville and their children and grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Don Myers
officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial
Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00
P.M. and Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A Masonic
memorial service will be conducted by the Greenville Masonic Lodge at
7:45 P.M. followed by the Scottish Rite Ring ceremony. Memorial
