Gary E. Long
Gary E. Long age 66, of Bradford, Ohio passed away at 6:52 A.M. on
Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Versailles Health Care Center. Gary was
born March 19, 1947 to the late Mervyn & Crystal (Cassel) Long.
Gary was a 1965 graduate of Versailles High School and a 1969 graduate
from Manchester College. Gary was a sanitarian with the Ohio Department
of Health where he met his wife of 33 years, Claire (Shaw). In 1977 he
left the Health Department to begin farming full time. Gary was a
lifelong member of Oakland Church of the Brethren where he served as a
deacon and board member.
In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his
step-mother, Mildred (Miller) Long; brother, Ronald Long; and sister,
Marilyn Martin.
Gary is survived by Claire; his son, Andrew (Lora) Long of Arcanum;
daughter, Kelly Long of Piqua; grandson, Reed Long; granddaughters,
Jocelyn and Anne-Marie Long; brother-in-law, Larry Martin of
Versailles; and nieces, Carolyn Martin of Minnesota and Diane Lyons of
Columbus.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday,
October 14, 2013 at Oakland Church of the Brethren 8058 Horatio Harris
Creek Rd. Bradford with Pastor John Sgro officiating. Burial will be
held at the convenience of the family in Oakland Cemetery. The family
will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Church of the Brethren.
