Melinda Baldwin Robinson

In Loving Memory
Melinda Baldwin Robinson

Melinda Baldwin Robinson, age 66, passed away on November 21, 2014, at her home in Evanston, IL, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born March 25, 1948 in St. Louis, MO, Melinda was the daughter of Capt. William A. Baldwin, Jr., a United States Air Force pilot, and Margaret F. (Swatek) Baldwin — both born and raised in the St. Louis area. Capt. Baldwin was killed in the line of duty when Melinda was nine years old. She was later adopted, along with her two siblings, by Lt. Col. John H. Robinson of Oshkosh, NE, a devoted father to all three children until his death in 1985.

Melinda graduated from Southeast High School in Lincoln, NE, in 1966, and studied English Literature at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Endowed with extraordinary beauty and charm, as well as a fluent command of the French language, Melinda was the first American to attend l’École de Mannequins de Paris for professional modeling, working briefly as a fashion runway and print model in Europe and the U.S. She went on to work in the graphic design and IT industries and quickly advanced to become a highly successful business executive in the Chicago area. In addition to her professional life, Melinda had a passion for restoring and redecorating old homes and antiques.

Melinda is survived by her loving children: James Richard Lawrence Martin and wife, Sally Bisson Martin, and Geoffrey Michael Martin; grandchildren: Chance William Martin and Dresden James Martin; beloved mother, Margaret Florence Robinson; devoted brother, Robert William Baldwin Robinson, Sr. and wife, Susan Enicks Robinson; loving sister, Kimberly Ann Brady; and nephews, Scott Allen Robinson, Robert William Baldwin Robinson Jr., Shawn Michael Allen Enicks and Jonathan Charles Brady. She will also be remembered by: James David Martin, former husband and father to her two sons; extended family, co-workers and friends.

Above all, Melinda will be remembered for the courage, humor and strength she showed during her long illness, and the joie de vivre that kept her fighting.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rush University Medical Center for lung cancer research. Please send memorial gifts to Rush University Medical Center, 1700 W. Van Buren St., Suite 250, Chicago, IL 60612 or visit www.rush.edu/memorialgift.
