Robert Best
Robert Best, 85, of Greenville passed away on June 7, 2014 at Union
City Care Center. Robert was born on March 8, 1928 in Bradford, Ohio to
the late Earl Best and Roy and Roma (Anderson) Heffner.
Robert served our country faithfully in the United States Army. He was
a member of the Greenville VFW. Robert retired after driving
truck 40 years - 20 of those were spent with the Carl Subler Trucking
Company. After retiring, he owned and operated B & K Lawn
Service. Robert really enjoyed woodworking and even had a
workshop in his garage.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by two
brothers, Lowell Best and Earl Best; a half sister, Mary Crawford; and
step grandson, Kevin Banta (2003).
Robert is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty (Pence) Best of
Greenville; two sons and daughters in law, Joe and Denise Best of
Arcanum, Ronnie and Jeannie Best of St. Paris, Ohio; two daughters and
sons in law, TK and Jeff Riegle of Greenville and Bonita and Tom
Schlechty of New Madison; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2
step daughters, Diana and Steven Banta of Greenville, (who had been his
caregiver for the last 10 years) and Cathy Pence of Greenville; 7 step
grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, June
14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Union Cemetery. Military graveside
services will be conducted by the Darke County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association or to the American Heart Association.
