Dr. Charles E. Labig

Dr. Charles E. Labig, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 65.  He was born on January 12, 1949 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Chalmer and Martha Labig.

Charles was a 1967 graduate of Greenville High School, and received a BA in Philosophy and Religion from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.  He went on to attend Boston University School of Theology, a seminary of the United Methodist Church, earning a Master of Theology in Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Counseling.  In 1978, he earned a Ph.D. in Religion, Culture and Psychology from Boston University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.  Dr. Labig worked as a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts mental health system, in both clinical and administrative positions, while also seeing patients in his own private practice in the suburban Boston area.

Charles valued his education highly, and he returned to Boston University, earning an MBA from the School of Management. From there, he became a corporate psychologist and joined RHR International, a consulting firm located in Los Angeles, California. While at RHR, he specialized in executive and organizational effectiveness. In 1995, he authored the book Preventing Violence in the Workplace. Dr. Labig had a passion for coaching effective leaders. He went on to work for BP Amoco Corporation at their headquarters in Chicago, Illinois as Director of Learning and Organizational Development until 1999. At The Hay Group of Chicago, Illinois, he specialized in organizational effectiveness and leadership development. He later served as Director of Leadership and Employee Development at Baxter Healthcare Corporation of Deerfield, Illinois, until his retirement in 2001. In 2006, he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Charles is survived by his two sons, Andrew R. Labig of Lafayette, Indiana, and Michael Charles Labig of Colorado Springs, Colorado; along with his brother Chalmer E. Labig Jr. and niece Emily Ann Labig, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Richard Venus officiating with graveside services to follow immediately at Greenville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12-2 PM at the funeral home.  It is the wishes of the family that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the donor’s choice.
