Jack “Red” Leon Unland
Jack “Red” Leon Unland, 95 of Greenville, Ohio passed away surrounded
by his family on August 22, 2015 after living life to its
fullest. He was born April 9, 1920 in Beardstown, Illinois the
son of the late Alvin H. & Edith (Brockhouse) Unland.
Jack was a World War II Veteran. He worked as General Manager at
American Aggregates Corporation in Indianapolis, IN and Greenville, OH
from 1938 until he retired after 50 years in 1988. While at
American Aggregates he worked for their subsidiaries, Greenville
manufacturing (1963-1974) and Grant Contracting (1974-1988) where he
oversaw dredging of the Ohio, Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
Jack was an avid golfer. Twenty years ago he organized the
“geezers” golf group which is still in existence at the Greenville
Country Club-now Turtle Creek. Jack orchestrated the “geezer”
golf tournaments, kept and posted scoring statistics and handicaps
(which some didn’t like). Jack played his final round of golf at Turtle
Creek Golf Club in May, 2015 at the age of 95! He was a member of St.
John Lutheran Church; Greenville Elks Lodge # 1139, Greenville V.F.W.;
American Legion Greenville Post # 140.
He is preceded in death by his sons: Jack Eugene, and Joe Unland;
grandson: Todd Leon Unland
He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Norma Unland; son: Jerry
Unland (Ron Gibson); step children: Rick Macci and Toni Wombold
(Ken); brother: Mark Unland (Judy); sister: Marcella
Fricke; grandchildren: Terri Mossbrucker (Mike), Tonda Mucho
(Scott), Troy Unland (Donna), Angela Petrisin (Jim); step
grandchildren: Kelli Marsh (TJ), Lisa, Farrah, and Ginger Macci,
Troy Wombold, Angie Hughes (Wayne); 14 great grandchildren; 5 great
great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday August 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St.
John Lutheran Church 7418 State Route 121 Greenville, Ohio with Pastor
Patti Morlock officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial
Park, Covington, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM
to 8:00 PM on Wednesday August 26, 2015 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home,
Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John
Lutheran Church or State of the Heart Hospice.
