George Robert Mikesell
George Robert Mikesell, age 99, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on
Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 3:45 PM at the Brethren Retirement
Community, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on July 25, 1915 in
Darke County, Ohio, to the late Bertie A. & Treva E. (Lantz)
Mikesell.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Barbara & Philip
Hosmer of Colorado Springs, CO, Debbie & Tom Labig of Greenville,
Ohio, and Fredrick & Lonna Mikesell of Sylvania, Ohio;
grandchildren; Rebecca (Rod) McDaniel, Roberta (Mike) Hagen, Rochelle
(Roger) Richards, Jennifer (Brian) Gruber, Kurt (Tiffany) Labig and
Beth (Kerby) Wilcox; great grandchildren Michael Hosmer, Nathan Hosmer,
Grant Bloom, Alexander Hagen, Kristina Hagen, Christopher McGraw,
Kathryn Gruber, Kelsey Gruber, Colin Gruber, Kie Labig, Keely Labig,
Kade Labig, Kinsley Labig, Kiersten Wilcox, Kenna Wilcox and Kallie
Wilcox; great great grandchildren Noah Hosmer, Lillian Bloom and
Matthew Hosmer; brother, John Mikesell of Greenville; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death his wife, Kathryn
Jane (Myers) Mikesell whom he married on September 3, 1938; sisters,
Mary Brown, Dorothy Clapp and Cora Baker; and brothers, James, Jessie,
Glen Jay, Richard, Bill and Russell Mikesell.
George retired in 1973 from Dayton Tire & Rubber Company after 32
years. He was a graduate of Hollansburg High School in 1933 and a
member of the United States Army serving during WWII. He was also
a member of the Hollansburg Christian Church and American Legion Post
708 in Hollansburg. He coached 12 years in Hollansburg Little
League Baseball, avid gardener sharing produce with others, loved
woodworking and loved helping his neighbors.
There will be a service held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM at
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Todd Reish
and Joe Hanna co-officiating. Burial will follow in the
Hollansburg Cemetery, Hollansburg, Ohio. Family will receive
friends on Friday from 12-2 PM at the funeral home. A Graveside
Military Service will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor
Guard.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to
the American Legion Post 708 or Hollansburg Christian Church.
