Helen Maree Witwer
Helen Maree Witwer, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 10:35
P.M. Sunday February 1, 2015 at the Brethren Retirement Community
Greenville, Ohio. She was born April 14, 1920 in Miami County
Ohio and the daughter of the late Floyd and Goldie (Martin) Maurer as
well as her step father Daniel C. Kniesly.
Helen grew up in the Gettysburg, Ohio area and graduated from GHS in
1938. She married Waldo Emerson Witwer. in 1942 and they were married
67 years. Helen retired in 1986 following 17 years of employment at the
Brethren Retirement Community. She was a lifelong member of the Oakland
Church of the Brethren Bradford, Ohio where she served in various
capacities including being a deacon, Dinner Theater, and cooking for
the Old German Baptist Brethren Annual Conferences.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, husband, son
in law J.D. Weaver, Brothers Richard Maurer and Floyd Maurer and
half-brother Donald Kniesly.
She is survived by her children Fred (Millie) Witwer of Centerville,
Ohio, Melvin (Karen) Witwer of Grove City, Ohio, Jane Dawson of
Centerville, Ohio, Joyce (Robert) Callaway of Michigan City, Indiana,
Janet (David) Julian of Greenville and Daniel (Lynn) Witwer of
Greenville; grandchildren Leslie (Kyle) Mayes, Kevin (Danelle) Witwer,
Michelle (Troy) Reed, Brian (Lynn) Dawson, Angie (Steve) Rhynard, Jaime
(Michelle) Weaver, Jolie (Seth) Larris, Megan (Jody) Sarber, Erin
(Scott) Laukhuf, Logan Witwer and Kelly Witwer; great grandchildren
Alexandra Mayes, Tyler Mayes, Morgan Reed, Rhiann Reed, Kayla Dawson,
Kyle Dawson, Nathan Rhynard, Evan Rhynard, James Weaver, Jenna
Weaver, Lilly Larris, Adlai Larris, Emersyn Sarber and Ainsley
Sarber, sister in law Beulah Maurer of Greenville, brother in law
Leo (Jeanne) Witwer of Greenville and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 14,
2015 at the Oakland Church of the Brethren 8058 Horatio Harris Creek
Road Bradford, Ohio with Pastors John Sgro and Todd Reish
co-officiating. Private graveside service will be held in the
Gettysburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday
February 14, 2105 from 10:00 A.M. until time of the services in the
church.
It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions are given to
Oakland Church of the Brethren or the Resident Aid Fund of the Brethren
Retirement Community.
