Douglas L. Black
Douglas L. Black, age 70 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:39 AM
Sunday July 24, 2016 at the VA Medical Center Dayton, Ohio. Doug
was born September 27, 1945 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late
Stanley W. and Janis E. (Besecker) Black.
Doug was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army. He
was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor and in April 2015
was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame with Valor.
He was retired from Mastec Communications of Greenville. Prior to
employment there, he had been employed at United Telephone Company of
Ohio, Fitzwater Tree Service, Snap-on-Tools, had owned Black’s Paint
Supply and co-owner of Jay’s Wrecker Service.
Doug was a Life Member of all the following: American Legion, V.F.W.,
D.A.V., Howard County Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America,
Am-Vets, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge all of
Greenville. He was currently serving as a Commissioner with the
Darke County Veteran’s Service Office, he was instrumental in bringing
the Traveling Wall to Greenville in 1998, loved to travel in his motor
coach and was very active with the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ronald
D. Black in August 30, 2005 and a sister in law Kathy S. Black
September 16, 2013.
Doug is survived by his wife Peggy (Crawford) Black of
Greenville. They were married April 23, 2005. Also children
Tristan A. Black of Greenville, Trista E. (Dan Buck) Black of
Athens, Ohio, Amber (Shannon) Stump, of Lima and Carmen Jeffries of
Greenville; grandchildren Eli Stump, Olivia Flatter, Emma Stump, Ethan
Flatter and Ashlynn Flatter; brothers Steven K. Black of Greenville and
his friend Rose Bridenbaugh and Tony (Debra) Black of Greenville as
well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Full Military Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday July 29,
2016 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Military
Chaplain Tom McGee officiating assisted by the Greenville Veteran’s
Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township
Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday
from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday 1 hour prior to the services
in the funeral home.
It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to
the Grenville Veteran’s Honor Guard or the Howard County Vietnam
Veterans Organization 8313 County Road E 400 S Greentown, Indiana, 46936
