Jack Amspaugh

Jack Amspaugh, also known as “Poppa Tiger”, 84, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center, Winchester, Indiana.  He was born on August 13, 1931, to Albert “Jinx” and Hazel (Boyer) Amspaugh in Darke County, Ohio.  He attended Ansonia High School, graduating in 1950 where he was involved in all sports available at that time.

Jack married Patricia (Whittington) Amspaugh on January 26, 1951, who preceded him in death in 2002.  He retired from Frigidaire in 1983 after 30 years of service.  After retirement Jack and Pat spent most of their time in Sturgis, Michigan, fishing, golfing and enjoying life.  He worked odd jobs just to support his golf habit.

Jack was an active member of Ansonia Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the Miami Valley Moose Legion 103 and was also active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sturgis, Michigan.  He was very involved with his community over the years but was best known as Poppa Tiger because of his involvement in the sports programs at Ansonia High School, especially the girls softball team, attending all games, home & away.

Jack is survived by his children, Susan (Ted) Boerger of Bradenton, Florida, and Larry (Anita) Amspaugh of Union City, Indiana, his grandchildren, Jeremy (Lisa) Boerger, Bill (Heather) Boerger & Amanda (Sam) Wise, A.J. (Heidi) Amspaugh & Kyle (Ashlee) Amspaugh, Jennifer (Neal) Gray and April (Steve) Billenstein, and 17 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his wife, Patricia, he was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David Amspaugh.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 1 PM at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Ron Hoesksema officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive guest at the funeral on Tuesday from 11 AM to 1PM.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Ansonia Athletic Boosters.
