George W. Rhoades
George W. Rhoades, age 91, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday,
August 20, 2017 at 5:30 AM at Versailles Health Care Center,
Versailles, Ohio. He was born on June 24, 1926 in Shelby County,
Ohio, to the late Lowell M. & Pearl E. (Feitshans) Rhoades.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Louise B. (Boyer) Rhoades of
Versailles, Ohio, whom he married on August 7, 1948; children and their
spouses, Jane Boetel of California, Thomas Rhoades of Piqua, Ohio,
Janet & Tom Mendenhall of Versailles, Ohio, and Shirley & Mark
Schlater of St. Paris, Ohio; grandchildren: Troy Eisenhour,
Kristopher (Nicole) Boetel, Jennifer (Matt) Millikin, Pamela (Chris)
Koon, Cynthia (Doug) Young, John Larger, Bob (Carrie) Mendenhall, Doug
(Sarah) Mendenhall, Andy (Beth) Schlater, Janelle (Ross) Loudenback and
Ryan (Christine) Schlater, 23 great grandchildren: sisters in law,
Carol Boyer of Covington, Ohio, and Millie Boyer of Florida; as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his
grandchildren, Amber Boetel and Kimberly Mendenhall; daughter in law,
Virginia (Larger) Rhoades; sisters and brothers in law, Dorothy &
Lester Warner, Margaret & Paul Morrow, William Boyer and Dale
Boyer.
George was a member of the United States Army serving in World War
II. He was a farmer for several years, worked at Weaver Brothers
as well as 22 years for Aerovent Fan Company in Piqua before retiring
in 1988. He was a lifetime member of Friedens Lutheran Church
where he served on the church council. He was also a member of
the Wayne Grange. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and was an
avid Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns fan.
There will be a service held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 10:30 AM
at Friedens Lutheran Church, 11038 Versailles Rd. Versailles, Ohio,
with Pastor Bob Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Miami
Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Family will receive friends on
Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home,
Versailles, Ohio. There will be a graveside military service
conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to
the Friedens Lutheran Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
