Romaine U. Berger
Romaine U. Berger, age 86, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on
Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:26 AM at Versailles Health Care
Center. He was born on April 23, 1931 in Darke County, Ohio, to
the late Urban & Mary (Poly) Berger.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Elsie (Dapore) Berger whom he
married on February 27, 1954; children and their spouses, Jeanne Berger
of Versailles, Anthony “Tony” (Rhonda) Berger of Beavercreek, Ohio,
Linda Berger of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Barb (Steve) Young of Russia,
Ohio; grandchildren, Bijayta (Kenneth) Parzgnat, Felicia Berger, Sara
Young and Brian Young; great grandchild, Nolan Parzgnat; sisters,
Bernadette Shawler, Adela Hoke and Mona Lou Blakeley all of Versailles;
as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth
J. Berger; siblings, Drucilla McNeal, Donald Berger and Jerome Berger.
Romaine was a member of the United States Air Force serving in the
Korean Conflict. He worked at Poultry Producers in Versailles for
30 years and Textron Cadillac Gage in Greenville for 20 years. He
was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the
Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Versailles. He enjoyed playing
cards, gardening and was a volunteer for the Versailles Emergency
Medical Services for many years.
There will be a Memorial Mass held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:30
AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, 14 E. Wood St., Versailles, Ohio, with
Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert
Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio, with a military graveside service conducted
by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. Family will receive
friends on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 6-8 PM as well as from 9-10
am on Friday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.
It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to
Versailles Emergency Medical Services or Hospice of Miami County.
