Donald R. Horner
Donald R. Horner, Greenville, Ohio, age 84, passed away April 26, 2018
at his residence. Don was born April 14, 1934 in Darke County to
the late Ray and Ethel (Barga) Horner.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by grandson Ryan
Riffle, brother Kenneth Horner, and half-brother Richard Horner, as
well as other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Don graduated from Gettysburg High School, Class of 1952. He married
and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline (Koeller) Horner,
October 8, 1952. He worked for Greenville City Schools for 23
years, Greenville Country Club, and retired from Greif, Inc.,
Greenville after 15 years.
Don was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 329,
Fraternal Order of Eagles 2177, served as Vice President of the former
American Federation of Musicians Local 599, and a current member of the
Lions Club of Greenville. He served as a past president of the
Gettysburg Alumni Association, and with others formed the committee to
erect the monument at the former Gettysburg School. With his
lifelong love of music, he formed “Don’s Rhythmaires” and performed
locally from 1959-1971, and went on for many years performing with
several other area groups.
Don is survived by daughters Connie (David) Kaplan and Carol (Doug)
Riffle, granddaughter Lisa (Denny) Moore, and great granddaughters
Peyton, Gracelyn and Alyssa Moore.
Also, brother Jack (Gloria) Horner, sisters Jean (Dave) Mogle, Linda
(Roger) Best, sisters-in-law Phyllis Horner, Beverly McDade, Marjorie
Schultz, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at
Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home Greenville with visitation one hour prior
with Rev. Dr. Fred Bernhard officiating. Burial will follow in
Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. The family will receive
friends on Tuesday, May 1, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The Loyal Order of
the Moose will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club of Greenville or
the American Heart Association.
