Wayne L. Shafer
Wayne L. Shafer, age 82 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:35 AM
Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Kesslerwood Place Senior Living in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Wayne was born January 16, 1936 in Darke County
and was the son of the late Harry and Frances (Yates) Shafer.
One of Wayne’s earliest jobs was as a mechanic for his Dad’s garage. He
continued being a mechanic as well as a crane operator for JD Berkley
Co. and Orbit Movers well over 30 years. He was a member of Operating
Engineers Local 18. He was a self-employed farmer all while working as
a crane operator too. Wayne also had been a member of the Grand Lodge
Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio for 60 years receiving his Entered
Apprentice Degree on October 10,1957, his Fellowship Degree on December
19, 1957, and his Master Mason Degree on January 16, 1958.
Wayne was the widower of Marlene L. Shafer, married for 53 years before
her passing in 2011. Surviving Wayne is his son and daughter in law,
Mike and Cathy Shafer of Indianapolis, Indiana and granddaughter
Samantha Shafer. His younger brother Dick Shafer also survives him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday May 1, 2018 at Zechar
Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Fred Bernhard
officiating. Burial will follow at Abbottsville Cemetery. The family
will receive friends on Monday April 30, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM in the
