Billy J. “Bill” Wilson
Billy J. “Bill” Wilson age 83, of Palestine passed away at 2:25 PM on
Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Brethren Retirement Community in
Greenville.
Bill was born August 31, 1935, in Palestine to the late Omer J.
“Cowboy” & Beatrice Ion (Lindamood) Wilson. In addition to his
parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his brothers &
sister-in-law, Franklin Edward Wilson and Robert & Mary Esther
Wilson; and sister & brother-in-law, Mary Alice & Don Brewer.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josephine “Jo” (Baker) Wilson
whom he married April 1, 1956; children, Juanita & Mike Dowler of
Palestine, Rusty & Teresa Wilson of Union City, Ohio, and Bea Ann
Hammaker of Hollansburg; grandchildren, Niccole & Chris Konecny,
Crystal & Dan Dowler, Micheal & Cynthia Dowler, Dwight Wilson,
Danielle Wilson, Nick & Monica Hammaker, Joe & Maggie Hammaker,
Megan & Matt Schmidt, Thom & Kandace Hammaker, Justin Hammaker
and Erica & Paul Dutton; 24 great-grandchildren; brother &
sister-in-law, Dan & Beverly Wilson of New Madison; son-in-law,
Rick Hammaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill worked at Carlos Casket Company in Carlos, Indiana for over 20
years. He was also “a jack of all trades,” working as a plumber and
mechanic. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Westmont High School. He was a
member of the Palestine Church of Christ and long-time member of the
Coon Den in Palestine.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 14,
2018, at Palestine Church of Christ 209 Lynn St. Palestine with Rev.
Mike Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery. The
family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the
church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palestine Church of
Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral
Home in Greenville.
