Leonard "Len" Dwight Sneary, Jr.

Leonard "Len" Dwight Sneary, Jr., 94, of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully the morning of April 1, 2019.

Len was born in New Weston, Ohio on August 25, 1924 to the late Leonard Dwight Sneary, Sr. and Treva Marie (Miller) Sneary.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Eleen (Price) Sneary, in 2010, and a grandson, Michael Eugene Martin, in 2015.

Len graduated from Ansonia High School in 1942. After graduation, he worked for the Hobart Company in Troy, Ohio until he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII, serving as a flight engineer. He was stationed in Casablanca, North Africa, making flights in and out of South America and Italy. He made over 50 trips across the equator, saw the pyramids and Sphinx, met the Pope, visited the Sistine Chapel, and went down the Nile River.

A lifelong resident of Darke County, Len had worked at the Newhauser Hatchery Company and retired as the Parts Manager with Hamilton Motors. Along with helping out on the farm, he loved to travel and was a member of the Ohio and International Flying Farmers. Due to his passion of flying he got his pilot license and enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 for many years. Len flew to numerous places with his plane, but most memorable was taking it to Alaska and north of the Arctic Circle. He and his wife took multiple cruises and were thrilled to go through the Panama Canal.

He leaves behind four daughters, Vickie (Bill) Martin, Nancy (Charles) Rummel, Suzanne Farmer, and Cindy Austen (Tim Harless). He also will be missed by 9 grandchildren, Melissa, Jeff, Sharon, Lisa, Katie, Brian, Cody, and Christopher; his 14 great-grandchildren; and his 4 great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Len’s life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Gary Oser of the Greenville Missionary Church officiating. Military Honors, conducted by the Greenville Honor Guard, and burial will follow at Greenville Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memory contributions be given to Greenville Missionary Church or State of the Heart Care.
