Vernon "Dale" Sullenbarger Sr.

Vernon “Dale” Sullenbarger Sr., 81 of New Paris, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 6, 2019 at 1:11 AM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center.  He was born June 25, 1937 in New Madison, Ohio the son of the late Vernon B. & Nellie Louise (Marshall) Sullenbarger.
 
He married his wife of 58 years Altha (Allread) Sullenbarger of New Paris in 1960; he is also survived by his children to whom he was a good father:  Suzy (Rick) Orbik of Richmond, Teresa Sullenbarger of Kettering, & Dale Sullenbarger Jr. of Union City, Ohio; he was known as Big Tall Grandpa by his grandchildren:  Jessica Anderson, Courtney (James) Hernandez, Zak Anderson, & Drew Sullenbarger; great grandchildren:  Jackson, Thatcher, & River Thompson, Junie Gross, Abraham & Theo Hernandez; his brother:  Darrell Sullenbarger; his sisters: Donna (Dave) McCallister, Darlene (Bob) Comer, Delores (Norm) Scholl, Mary (Mike) Wise.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers:  Duane & Bill Sullenbarger; his sister:  Doris Jane.

He served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959; he retired from Fram Honeywell after 45 years where he worked as a Tool & Dye Maker; he was also a beekeeper and enjoyed every minute of it.  He was one of the hardest working men and made it look easy.

He was a 1955 graduate of New Madison High School; he was a dedicated blood donor having donated over 150 pints; he was a very caring person and touched many people’s lives; he loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing; he loved to put out a garden large enough to feed several families; he had a great sense of humor and also had a little bit of a stubborn side.

Services will be held on Thursday January 10, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.  Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday January 9, 2019 and 1 hour prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care.  He will be dearly missed by everyone and left this world a better place.
